It was my first visit but I spent really good time in Lyon. I'd like to say thank you to ZEF who gave me a chance to perform in Lyon and all the people from clafooti. They are wonderful people.
When i did LIVE, There were not so many people in the club but i felt that most of the people were dancing. I hope they enjoyed it. I hope i can bring more people to the show next time. thanks all.

it seems parabolica is a little more dance oriented than your previous albums? i listened to the sync podcast and really like it so far.

do you get jet-lag when you travel so much?

thanks for your comment.
Yes, This time i tried to make dance music, because op.disc mainly release techno music, so i tried to adapt myself in their way. and I quite like it. Actually I've been playing dance music since when i had a chance to perform in the club.

>do you get jet-lag when you travel so much?

Now I'm living in Paris, and recently i just went to some cities around here. so no jet-lag at the moment. Maybe i have jet-lad when i go back to Japan for my tour this time.

dance music is more fun for live shows, and your sound works very well as micro house.

if you don't mind me asking, what software do you use to perform live? do you use different software for your dance style music? and do you just run one computer, or two?

I'm sorry but i don't really wanna talk about technical things here. I've already wrote some about my LIVE set ups on this blog, so Please check archives if you have time. at the moment, i use Logic and MAX/msp on two laptops.

Posted by: AOKI at October 17, 2006 5:14 AM

no problem.
my point was to ask if you change your setup for dance music vs. non-dance music.

Posted by: mike at October 17, 2006 6:22 AM

mike
ops.. Sorry i missed the point.. I sometimes use some other equipments depending on condition or situation. But basically the same setup for both dance music vs. non-dance music.

Posted by: AOKI at October 17, 2006 7:29 AM

i understand if you don't want to talk about technical things, if people ask me about my setup or programs, i don't like to talk about it either, because it doesn't matter, you're right.

i'm want to know how you feel about doing live shows though... do you usually have VJ or visuals as well? sometimes we feel a "laptop set" is so boring, just someone sitting at their computer... how do you feel about that? i think it's a challenge for digital artists.

thanks for your comment.

>i understand if you don't want to talk about technical things,

I talk about technical things if i have an interview with musical technical magazines, But i don't really wanna talk about it at here. Because There're many people checking this web who don't have those knowledge. thank you for understanding.

>do you usually have VJ or visuals as well?

no. I usually play without any visuals except when i do LIVE with a Japanese visual artist RYOICHI KUROKAWA.

>how do you feel about that?

Sometimes I feel the same when i see "quiet" artist on stage. But I'm quite busy when i'm on stage, so some people tell me that I'm not quiet ;-) As you can see some photos from LIVE reviews, I move so much when i'm playing so i get blurred all the time.(<<Is it right expression??).
Anyway I really wanna come to your country someday and I'd like you to judge if I'm boring or not ;-)

thanks

haha, yes, you are welcome to come. I will go to see your live show.

"I move so much when I'm playing that I'm always blurry in the photos." (but don't worry, your english is excellent, no problem understanding).

I think it's not a big problem for dance music, because the audience is busy dancing. But for quieter shows, it's difficult. A good example is our friend Noriko Tujiko... she is my absolute favorite artist, I love her music so much. I saw her live twice, and honestly, I prefer to listen to her CDs at home. Or, if I can lie down and be comfortable during her show, it's great! But if I just stand still and watch someone sit at a computer, it's tiring. I resist doing live shows because my music is like this, i'm sure my show must be boring!

mike
thanks for giving me a correction ;-)

>But if I just stand still and watch someone sit at a computer,
> it's tiring.

I understand that very much.
you know, maybe we need to find some new ways of listening to this kind of music because computer music is something really new. Maybe it's normal to feel boring when you see their LIVE in old way(just stand still and watch someon) ... I hope you understand what i wanna say.
thanks

absolutely! it's not a band! i think in major cities there are some experimental spaces for electronic music. i played at an amazing bar in NYC which was designed especially for ambient music. very relaxing.

in tokyo i liked superdeluxe for this style, have you played there? i saw noriko at aoyama cay, which is better for bands.

but now i'm no longer in a big city (i don't care for big city life so much... tokyo was a difficult place to live), so I cannot find such experimental spaces. when i see your blog i'm so jealous because i see all these amazing venues you play at.

what is your favorite venue you played at?

Posted by: mike at October 19, 2006 12:27 AM

mike thanks for your comment.

>what is your favorite venue you played at?

mmmhhh... I really enjoyed the sound at dachstock in Bern Switzerland. I really wanna play my sound there again.

Hi AOKI,

Thanks for your comment about the party, we really enjoyed your set. I think you really found something interesting through these rather techno beats and electronica textures.

We will try to do something bigger next time you come to play with us in Lyon .

Say hello to yuko.

I'm glad to hear that you liked my sound. I didn't know that you live in Lyon, so I'm surprised when you talked to me at there.
Yes, I also want to come back Lyon and perform again.
hope to see you then.

Hi AOKI,

As Greg & Nil said together, you did a really beautiful gig, a path between smooth textures & banging beats as a minimal techno set. Sorry if the crowd wasn't so massive during your live set, and we've all making plans for you 'til spring 2007 ! Yuko & you are very friendly and hope we'll continue to stay in touch. I promise to send you extras photos & few videos (as .mov, but all of them are so dark !) and then, you can update your blog.
Wish you a great tour in Japan ! I also see that your friend Fumiya is going to DJ in Paris in November, at the Batofar - for the great french label Logistik !
Say hello to Yuko and see you all soon.

I'm so glad that i could visit and perform in LYON this time.
I spent really really good time there. and I'm so glad to hear that you liked my set.

and you don't have to say sorry about number of people there. I was just not famous enough to bring many people there. I have to say sorry. I'll try to make better music and I hope i can bring more people there next time i play.

thanks again for giving me a chance to perform, and I'm sure I'll do much better performance if you give me another opprtunity!
see you soon.
